Nail fungus can affect many of us, even the cleanest of all. The infection can begin as a white or yellow spot under the fingernail or toenail. It can then begin to spread deeper into the nail, which may cause the nail to lose its color, become thicker, and develop crumbling edges. If left untreated for too long, the picture gets more complicated.
When treating nail fungus with a laser for photodynamic therapy, the heat will irradiate the nail, resulting in gradual elimination of the fungus. While there are over the counter antifungal nail creams and ointments most of them are not very effective, and oral medications can affect other organs in the body. Thus, laser is an effective method relatively free of unwanted side effects.
