Is More Better?

Is More Better?

What a pleasure to have been a presenter at the last International Association of Plastic and Aesthetic Nurses (ISPAN) Meeting in San Diego… and to my surprise, there was a poster competition, and my poster was selected to win an award…very exciting to be part of this skincare revolution! The fact is that wholistic, non-invasive anti-aging treatments are now better, with longer lasting results, and more affordable than before. We now have a better understanding of the relationship between the hypothalamus, the adrenals and the pituitary, and their implications on the skin. In other words, sleep, stress, and nutrition are key components of the equation…factors that we’ve been endorsing for a long time.

But now to my topic: Is more really better? I ask this question, because sometimes we ask for more treatments, higher intensity of such treatments, and so on, with the hope of a better outcome. In other words, for example, my clients ask for increases in laser hair removal settings, undertaking more pain than necessary in order to get rid of hair; but the fact is that balance is key. If you go too high in the laser hair removal setting, you take the risk of getting burned. And this is something we have no control of, since we don’t know what you’re feeling and as long as you are within average parameters, in our heads, all is fine. But, we are not in your head…

The opposite applies to after care. The success of any treatment is directly linked to strict compliance with after care guidelines. When you leave for your house, you are not done. In other words, when we tell our clients, keep your skin moist with aloe at all times for the next few days after treatment, they don’t always comply. Yet aloe is an amazing healing plant key to a smooth experience. We can’t stress enough the importance of after care.
